009-1
009-1 by Andromeda Imagine a world where the cold war never ended, that the struggle for arms, technology and political supremacy is still ongoing. With all this comes along the spies, those that sneak around stealing a countries top secrets or assassinating the ones that their employers think need eliminating for one reason or another. Enters a group of elite spies known as the Zero Zero Organization, headed up by field commander Mylene Hoffman. This is no ordinary group of spies, but cyborgs, female cyborgs with minds that can kill and bodies to die for. Seduction, lies, secrets, and assassinations, this is their world. In the first volume alone Mylene will have to save a scientist, help hunt down a mutant, seduce an assassin and find her way through a labyrinth. She goes up against the toughest agents in the business. Good thing she is one of the toughest agents in the business along with the rest of the women of the Zero Zero Organization. The women of the Zero Zero Organization are bombshells. The action is top notch. At times the language may make those who don’t use curse words on a regular basis cringe slightly. It definitely deserved its MA rating. Don’t let the rating put you off, it’s an extremely good series and would recommend it to anyone. Most of you may be familiar with the Cyborg 009 series that played on Cartoon Network. This was geared more for teens and up. But 009-1 wasn’t. The manga, created by Shotaro Ishinomori, was aimed at adults and it’s nice to see that when Shinsuke Onishi did the animated version, he kept the adult tone. Shinsuke Onishi also worked on the Cyborg 009 series. The animation is very familiar if you have seen any other series or movie related to this series. And I must mention the opening and ending themes. They are songs you would definitely want on your play list, so hunt down that soundtrack, I know I will. You don’t have to be familiar at all with anything in the 009 world to watch this series. Other than the art and use of 009, it’s a story all its own. DVD Features: Director and Staff Interview, How the Manga Became an Anime, Weapons and Gadgets Information, Clean Opening and Clean Closing Animation, and Previews. There’s also an insert that details each main player in the four episodes, along with an interview with Naoyuki Konno and Shinsuke Onishi. I've only seen the first episode of this, so I would really like to see a little more to get a better judgement on this series. Something for the next meet up if you still have the DVD at that time.
