pinkrabbit- 02-27-2006

pinkrabbit, I've reserved our rooms at the Sheraton. My girl-friend and I have received our passes, so everything on my end is setup now.I've already recieved the passes for my mom and myself. How much is the hotel a night? I need to know how much I need to pay on my end if we're going to share rooms or if I need to book one of my own... I can't remember... if you and your girl friend aren't really expecting "parental" attendance I understand. Even if she's going for fun, my mom still has a habit of being "motherly." As, um, was whitnessed at the last meeting...Let me know what you want to do. I can handle my mom on my level but I don't want her to cause you guys to not have fun.

I got a room for us all. It was tough dealing with the lady on the phone. She didn't speak great English so I'm going to call again when I get an opportunity to confirm everything I did this last time. A room holds upto 4 people, and it's double beds. That's two big beds from my understanding. You, and your mother can take one, and my girlfriend and I can take the other. If it's anything like the last room I had there then the beds will be seperated by a wall. The Animazement rate is $87 a night, but after the taxes and fees are included it's closer to $100 a night. Since we'll only need the room for two nights it's just roughly $200. Split 4 way's for all that's attending it's $50 a person.

I'm getting pumped for Animazement now. Only 3 weeks away! And now I'm debating on making a plushie of Kurotsuchi-taicho from Bleach just because his Japanese voice actor will be there and my friend thought it would be amusing if I got a picture of him with it. -___- Darn her for suggestion it cuz now I wanna do it. I've still got a bunch of stuff to do before that weekend but not as much as I normally have. So all is ok! =D How about you guys? Everyone going getting excited?

Tsunade-Hime- 05-13-2006

Guess I'll be there Friday & Saturday; it's only an hour away. I've been to every one so far, even though the last few years have been kinda so-so. We used to get a huge group together and stay from Thursday-Sunday but have not done that for 3years now. I still liked it best when the con was at the old Hilton off the beltway. TAS should have left the convention dates in Mid-March; Animazement was the only con in March; now they are the same weekend as AnimeNorth and Fanime, with AKon the following weekend. And haveing Yuu Watase back over and over again did not help either. At least there are some different Japanese guests this year! Still probably hang out in Artist's Alley and the dealer's room though.....

BodyOrgan- 05-13-2006

Yeah, they really need to do something about changing the date so their the only con at that time. It's painful for the dealers room when other cons are happening at the sametime.

Tsunade-Hime- 05-14-2006

They posted the Dealer's Room list on the website; there are still some very good smaller dealers there. Anime Pavillion will also be there; they usually have some good buys on DVD's. Of course the only reason they will be there is because the owner can't go to Anime North; he's got a criminal record for bootlegging, so he can't go to Canada!

BodyOrgan- 05-14-2006

Oh great, so we get cheap bootlegs :-(

ChibiShinigami- 05-15-2006

Not all bootleg dvds are bad. >.> I've bought several in the past that were great quality. But truthfully, all dealers bootleg something. I've seen several bootlegs of all different products in dealers rooms. It's just too hard to spot them all and the con staffs have too much to do rather than going thru every tiny thing the dealers have. Somethings just aren't obvious unless you know what to look for.

But truthfully, all dealers bootleg something. I've seen several bootlegs of all different products in dealers rooms. It's just too hard to spot them all and the con staffs have too much to do rather than going thru every tiny thing the dealers have. Somethings just aren't obvious unless you know what to look for. Even when you know what to look for it's hard; the bottleggers are now forging the Japanese tax labels....Most bootlegs in the dealer's room are going to be plushies, pins, wallscrolls and action toys (Transformers most notably). I can spot a bootleg DVD and CD with no problem; at Nekocon several dealers tried to sell Advent Children DVD's; I simply told them to take them off the tables. The plushies all looked authentic with proper tax labels; most of the large plushies are fakes. Steve Lin owner of Anime Pavillion spent time in jail (6months) for bootlegging CD's out of his basement. He also had something to do with Pandora's Cube; they got closed down for selling/modding/XBox consoles loaded with games in 2004. The Feds got them; the store was in DC near the capital with signs posted in the window; you could also look in and watch them doing the mods. Yeah how bright were they! Steve somehow got out of that one. You have to watch; Anime Pavillion/Pandora's Cube operate under several different store names. Also, HKT sells bootlegged merchandise to several small dealers. Anime Pavillion's DVDs are all US licensed releases, and they do sell them at reasonable prices at cons.

BodyOrgan- 05-15-2006

So pretty much I should stick with Walmart, Bestbuy, or my local anime shop instead of getting DVDs at the cons. I also don't see much a reason to purchase (at least DVDs) at the cons anymore. What used to be a savings no longer is.

Tsunade-Hime- 05-22-2006

Everybody ready for Animazement this weekend?? I'll be there on Friday and Saturday.

ChibiShinigami- 05-22-2006

I'm ready for the fun, but not ready for the Artist Alley. I never am on time. I still have 50 hats to applique, 2 plushies to make (one for sell, one for a friend to send to another convention), and my cellphone charms to finish. Thank god i'm not cosplaying, else I'd be running around like a headless chicken right now. x.x

BodyOrgan- 05-22-2006

Tsunade-Hime, how will I know who you are? I'm going to be there for the weekend, and I need to say hey.

Andromeda- 05-23-2006

I can't wait!!!
