It's more of a Sci-Fi con than it is an anime con, but who's to say that we can't add a little anime into their life? It already will have a smidgen. So let's go show some support!!
Anime
The North Rowan County Anime group is making it's first appearance at ConCarolinas this year. We will have at least 2 hours a night of Anime films, plus several discussion panels.
I was wondering... who would like to do a table at ConCarolinas to promote Anime and SCA? I know an anime club that already does that and shows a few hours of anime on friday and saturday night there, but I was thinking we could bring a tv and a PS2 and the DDR stuff. I think more than just us anime fans would be interested in that. They play those tabletop games and such, we could bring my Cardcaptor Sakura game! lol. Since the PS2 plays DVDs, we could play Anime! Licensed stuff of course. I could probably ask my contact from ADV to send some ADV promotional stuff. Also I could talk to my friends at Wasabi Anime for pointers.
The only draw back... we'll probably have to pay some fee for the table, which I'm not sure what it is yet.
Not only will we be promoting anime in the area, we'll be supporting the anime things that the other anime club will be doing.

Just let me know when it is, and how much, and i'll see what i can do to help.

I emailed people at ConCarolinas last night and received a reply within a couple hours. They are more than happy to let us do something at the con.
We can bring DVDs to show in the viewing room. I have the email and name of the woman in charge of that. So let's knock some heads together about anime that we think will draw in a crowd. I'm going for more Scifi on this because it is mainly a Scifi con.
DDR. There is no room at a fan table in the hallways because of room and power is limited, but we can do this as a panel or when there is free time in the Game room or Video room. I'm so liking the panel idea myself.
Right now there are no open fan tables, but she's looking into it to see if any will be freed up within the next week or two and will let us know. If we get a table, we will need volunteers to help at it.
So input people!

Well, we should consider if people would want to see anime series, or movies, if we were to go there, and attend. Also, we should see which ones the majority havent seen yet, or which ones are really popular with the crowd. None of the new stuff is going to really work on them, since most of the people who attend are Otakus and have already seen most of the new stuff, but i guess it couldn't hurt to show it.
Now, i have a question about attendees. How much is it going to cost to have a table set up, and how much is it going to cost to attend?

Okay...
First: This isn't an anime con, but a SciFi con with an anime presence. Have you checked the website out yet?
Second: It doesn't matter whether we show a series or a movie.
Third: How are we going to find out what the majority has seen or been exposed to?
Fourth: Not an anime crowed, so new stuff will be fine. Better than old school to draw in a crowd.
Fifth: No otakus at this Con expect for the Rowan County Anime Club and us.
Sixth: The fan table is free. I have not been told I have to pay to have it.
Seventh: Go to the website to find out the cost.

Now for the Con update. I have been told that we now have a table! WOOT!!!! Things that we need for this, is a moderate sized TV and a DVD player, because we will have an outlet. I think we should show AMVs and anime. Does anyone have one of those DVD players that plays computer discs? Better yet, is there anyway to hook a TV up to a laptop?

Well, then what do you think will draw a crowd?

Did you even read my post above your last post with all the questions in it?

 Yes i read what you said. But i'm not bothering starting an argument. I just want to hear some suggestions on what are we going to show from you. As in your own personal opinion.
Oh, one more thing. As for the question about hooking up a TV to a laptop. Yes it's more than possible, but it depends on what video card the laptop is using. Actually, come to think of it, almost all current vid cards can be hooked up to a TV, but certain TV's (more recent ones) are able to interface well with them.

If you had read it, then you'd know I said Sci Fi stuff.

What i meant was, what titles do you have in mind. Not what genre.

OK. I'm going to try this one more time. Do you have any Sci-fi Anime DVD's to show in mind? If so, can you name any?
One i have in mind is Alien 9. Seems like a reasonable one, since it's a Sci-fi Anime. Or how about Rahxephon? Since it also fits in pretty well.
high_templar- 02-20-2006
I would think something like 'Armitage' or 'Blue Gender'. I liked alien9 but it is a bit cutesy for a sci-fi con IMHO.
