Blue Lionheart- 04-12-2006

Has anyone noticed that the crew at Dattebayo are getting increasingly jerky lately? I've noticed it in the little quips at the end of the openings, as well as a couple other things and they seem to seriously have a chip on their shoulders...asside from the Better Than Thou complex that comes with irc groups. lol And I actually think i liked the Lunar subbing a lot more for Bleach than Dattebayo. I really got used to "Death God" and "Soul Slayer", and Dattebayo is leaving a lot of the terms in the original Japanese and it's seriously throwing me off. Since they started at episode 50, I kind of wish that they had picked up where Lunar had left off and didn't change it.

Tsunade-Hime- 04-12-2006

Yeah, I agree about the Lunar subbing; it was far superior. Anbu and Toriyama's World also did a better job doing Naruto. However, these 3 groups won't fansub once a series is licensed. So, until VIZ releases season box sets, for both series, I'm happy with whatever I can get. As for Dattebayo's smart remarks, most of them are directly pointed to Tazmo and his group at NarutoFan, not that Tazmo cares. He has manged to piss off several scanlating and fansub groups for CHARGING people to download the work they did and allow people free access to. If you want to go thru the postings at www.stoptazmo.com in the "Bash Tazmo Thread" go right ahead! Needless to say he's made a lot of enemies. Bottom line forum users: don't pay someone to download stuff that was created by others for free access to fans; donate to sites if you like, but don't pay for a special access.

Zero0079- 04-12-2006

Who actually did pay him for the subs anyway? I mean, i don't see anyone actually be dumb enough to pay for that.

Tsunade-Hime- 04-12-2006

You'd be surprised...Tazmo's got a lot of people paying him for NarutoFanPlus and his manga site (directmanga.com) that is available only if you pay. What can I say, some fans are just plain stupid........ (sorry if that offended anyone)

Andromeda- 04-12-2006

I'm too cheap to pay for it. I'd stop watching the series completely if it came to that and just want to rent it at the comic shop.

Zero0079- 04-12-2006

Or you could just find it on a site that carries the torrent. Assuming that's what you have to pay for. The torrent to be able to download the anime or manga.

Blue Lionheart- 04-13-2006

That sounds pretty lame to me, but people have been making money off of conniving and conning for centuries...heck, that's one of the fundamentals of big business. >_< My problem with Dattebayo is that so many of the main staff members are quite rude. It's like that over at the TV-Nihon site too. It's like because they add subtitles and post it for people to download they get a god complex or something. It's seriously weird. They talk down to EVERYONE except people in their circle, and if you ever EVER say anything that they don't want to hear? Oh man. You are banned IMMEDIATELY. I don't appreciate when people like that abuse their power just because they can. I've never understood that and I never will. hehe So does anyone know why Lunar stopped subbing Bleach? They had some trouble with their server at one point, but after around 50 it seems they just kind of dropped out of releasing Bleach, and even those little desktop images they'd show before each episode were nice too. I just really like their work better than DB. I thought DB was the best of the best at one time, but I've changed my view on that now. :)

Zero0079- 04-13-2006

Yeah, i hate people like that. That's why you can't really take much from those types. That's why there's competition. So if people start disliking them, that will only hurt them, since everyone would go with the other Fansubbers. And this isn't really a business, so many of the rules don't really apply. As for bleach not being subbed anymore, i don't really know the answer to that, but i can tell you that they won't be able to, since it was already licensed.

BodyOrgan- 04-13-2006

I understand why they are like that. I'm part of an anime group, and way to many people whine, and I'm not talking about members of the group, but those outside it. Where can I get your episode? Your servers are slow! OMG I can't play it, what codec do you use? Why do you use that codec it sucks. You should use codec A. Why did you use this word instead of that word. You're taking to long, I want my sode. You guys suck. blah.. blah.. blah.. Quite frankly from DB's perspective and mine. I don't care what you think, I don't really want to talk to you, you're lucky we do this anyway. Stop bothering me because you're wasting my time. You need to look at this from their perspective, and not butter it up. Sure they may get someone like you who adds something to a conversation, but you might be assuming everyone is like you to a reasonable degree. However usually what they get is "when is the next episode going to be released * infinity" (and you can't help but wonder why they ask this when it hasn't been aired in Japan yet). Also even though we might get someone like you who thinks they are actually helping they really aren't. P.S. I don't mean to sound rude or mean, and I'm not attacking anyone specifcally, so please dont take it this way. I'm just giving the perspective of someone who does what they do.

Andromeda- 04-13-2006

Haha, BodyOrgan is a Sailor Scout. It's one of those cases, put yourself in the other person's shoes.

Blue Lionheart- 04-14-2006

I just think that it's no excuse to be rude. People admire them and respect what they do and they go there to try to make friends and be a part of it and then if they ask a question, they get backhanded out of the channel. The honest truth? It is probably the first time that person has ever asked that question before and they innocently wanted to know. They shouldn't have to swim through huge faqs and message boards to ask a question of a community that they are relatively new to. If they just come in and politely ask a question, I don't see the problem. When I was running the Final Fantasy Ball, we had people email us and ask the same questions over and over and over and over, and I would always politely answer them and would never answer them rudely. I might tell them "Here's a link to the answer you are looking for. There's a bunch of other stuff on that page too, so just check that out and it should help you out! :)" and they would always thank me for being so nice and polite and went on their way. Same deal when I sell my props on ebay. People ask me OVER AND OVER "Is it made out of metal?" and I always explain it to them calmly and rationally. If a person gets angry about repeated questions then...well, they need to learn patience. To just get angry and kick someone, that's really immature, especially when they just wanted an answer. The thing you have to remember is: Yes, you have heard this question 50,000 times, but how many times has this specific person asked it? It's not their fault for not knowing. Not everyone knows where to find all the answers, or who has what kinds of personalities or what. When you go into a certain community and you are alien to it, it is NOT your fault if something suddenly blows up. You don't know how it works, and you are trying to learn things. Yes, I do understand your perception by saying "You should be grateful that we are doing this." but in my defense, I didn't ask you to. :) It's very nice that you are doing it, yes...but that doesn't give people the right to condescend to me because they did something free of charge and posted it publickly. They should still treat people decently. Certain cases where people are rediculously obnoxious and deserve to be kicked, yes, I can understand that, but if you walk into a supermarket and instead of going to the customer service desk you ask one of the people working in the aisles where something is, do they throw you out of the store? Nah, they still help out just because it's the right thing to do. :) I have a hero complex. I always like to do the right thing even if I have to go out of my way to do it. :)

Tsunade-Hime- 04-14-2006

Lunar (Bleach) and Anbu (Naruto) stopped fansubbing those series when VIZ formally announced they had the licensing rights. Lunar is one of those groups that adheres to the original fansubbers' ethics of once it's licensed we stop fansubbing. That's the way it really should be (in the VHS/Genloc days it was)... it used to be that way when you had to get your fansubs the hard way; head of an anime club or con video room programmer (they used to send SVHS masters). The internet changed all that, and distros started up. Then anyone could get a VHS tape for around $5 for 3-5 eps. Most distros would pull the titles once licensing was annouced. The distros all started closing down once the digi-subbing started. (animesushi.com still adheres to this policy, downloadanime.org does not) Ok after saying all that, you're thinking, wait a minute she's still downloading and watching the licensed stuff, what a hypocrite. Yep, I am. Why you ask? Because groups will still do it in spite of the old ethics. Once upon a time I couldn't. There were a lot of series that I only saw a few epsidoes of, and had to buy the anime once it came out commercially. That was one of the original reasons behind fansubbing; a sampling to hold one over till licensing, and to let the fans see what will never be released here. I would never have been exposed to anime like Miyazaki's Movies, Beserk, Fushigi Yuugi, Marmalade Boy, Initial D, Gundam and may more without the fansubbers of old. I purchase the licensed anime once it comes out here. I realize not everyone can afford this, not even I can get all the stuff I want. But I feel that you should at least buy the titles that you really love. It helps the industry; the more people purchasing the lower the prices will become. Anime is still considered a niche market, so more fans have to be created in order to do this. But that's a whole 'nother rant!! VIZ really pisses me off tho; come on people InuYasha is 168 eps and you're putting 4 on a disc? Give me a break. How many years has it been since IY has been coming out and they only have 2 season boxes released so far? It's going to be the same with Naruto and Bleach. Years to wait. That's why I will still keep downloading the eps as long as some group will still keep fansubbing. The season boxes will be purchased by me when they come out. (FYI: I don't watch or purchase the HK region free DVD's) BTW I have the first 4 seasons of Ranma 1/2 on VHS subtitled 2 eps per tape for $30 a pop. Yeah. VIZ already has enough of my money....

Andromeda- 04-14-2006

It is ridiculous about the prices of only a couple of eps from some companies... particulary on the ones with a whole heck of a lot of eps like IY.

Zero0079- 04-14-2006

I don't mean to sound rude or mean, and I'm not attacking anyone specifcally, so please dont take it this way. I'm just giving the perspective of someone who does what they do. The thing you have to understand is that everyone starts out as a noob. Most of these guys tend to be rude for no reason what-so-ever. As a matter of fact, not too long ago, i was almost banned from a mod community just because i gave constructive criticism to the project leader, which no doubtedly would help improve the mod, since all the mod leader got was nothing but positive reactions that failed to see any flaws, regardless of their presence or not, which would definatley help bring down the quality. When people like these are not opened to suggestions or criticism, the end result would be them failing. So it's always best to have an open mind. This goes for any type of project. Now, when someone asks a question, there is no reason to act rude at all. Just because everyone asked the same question as everyone lese, and the recipient heard it a billion times from different people, that doesn't mean that everybody in the world knows this, and accepts this as the absolute truth. And this will never change. So acting that way will only end up hurting whoever is acting like that. Also, i agree about inflation in DVD sales. These things are freaking ridiculous. Havent these companies ever heard of the law of supply and demand?

BodyOrgan- 04-17-2006

The only thing I have to say to most people out there is RTFM. If you do that, and I mean actually try and you still need to ask a question, then I'm okay with it. Most of these IRC servers have a bot that deals with rules, and FAQ. Learn to use the facilities provided. As for the low amount of episodes a DVD. I totally agree with everyone else here. It's the licensee trying to milk it for all it's worth. Take a look at X TV as an example. It had 8 DVDs for 24 episodes. Talk about pathetic. If it had been 5 episodes a disc they could have done it with 5 DVDs, or 4 episodes a disc at 6 DVDs. Instead they choose to rip off the fans.
