I really like the dictionary thing in the back. It's like educationg us and we could always use a little more education in our lives! And teaches about other cultures. And the whole chanting thing.. good lord, I think we all know that chanting is meant to be not understood. It's been used a lot of times in movies here in the US with no complaints. I can see it now. "Hey, does anyone know what that guy is saying in that chant? I think they should have at least subtitled it."
I think that's what irks me the most. I'm not -old- but I have to admit that I hang out on places like Gaia. I find children becoming increasing more stupid every minute (if you go on Gaia, I direct your attention to Extended Discussion and the Chatterbox ¬¬) and I really don't like the fact that adults are continuing to enable them to BE stupid. Anime -is- a cultural thing, despite a lot of it not being cultural specific and I also know that a lot of things cannot be translated here due to the differences in our cultures but come on! There's a limit. And it's not like those of us like me are asking for too much. Just try to educate at the same time as provide entertainment. Where's Sesame Street when you need it!? If the kids don't want to learn further, then that's their choice, but at least give them the option to flip to the back and use the dictionary (or cultural notes on DVDs like the Saiyuki DVDs have).
It makes me want to go have a litter of children just out of spite so that I can raise of few intelligent human beings for a change.

Are you talking about my position regarding fansub groups? I've never heard of this Answerman before.
Yes BodyOrgan! I think you have a good point about fansub groups and should enter the contest!
Go to:
www.animenewsnetwork.com Hey Answerman! should be the first item on the right (it usually is). Click on it and scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see the Rant Rant Rant section. They did this contest because of all the stupid questions and rants that people email in. Answerman just wanted to see if people could write intelligent posts/rants. So they made a contest....
I think you should check it out and see if you wanted to participate in it with your stance about fansub groups!

Hmm....I'll think about it. I may write something up and see what it looks like. Who knows if I'll turn it in.

My take My history (like everyone elses of course) sorta paints me into a jaded corner here.
I started out as an EFNet IRC op 20 years ago, from a wunnerful 1200baud dialup shell. I've been involved in warez groups, vcd courier distribution, etc... so on and so forth. By 1999 I gravitated away from being a bad boy mostly(hey, we all grow up eventually) and into freelance writing for tech publications.
Over the last 20 years the internet has become a generally stupider place, but that's merely a product of it's evolution and the fact that so many more people are a part of it.
Fansub groups do what they do because they generally love what they do. Without them, many of us wouldn't have the exposure to anime that we do have. People in general can be difficult to get along with, and this is true on all sides. Regardless, anyone complaining about someone elses hard work they're doing for free (no matter how pissy or grudgingly they might SEEM when doing it), probably needs a hobby.
