Fruits Basket

This is probably the one anime that I've watched and rewatched the most. It has some depth to the background story, without wallowing in itself. It's about perfect for a non mecha, non overtly magical (yeah the Juunishi curse isn't exactly rational, but the curse alone doesn't factor in as a distraction) anime series. It's also (apart from the original Tenchi OVA's) got probably the best english dub I've ever experienced. I usually watch anime series in japanese first, then lean on subs to fill in the context I don't get from my crappy japanese comprehension. Alot of series lose a great deal in translation. This is a rare exception...

Oh someone else who thinks the original Tenchi OVA's had the best dub around. SWEET!

yeah man. I'm not a super huge fan of many english dubs, but the original Tenchi OVA1/2 series was solid. The latest OVA3 wrap up of the story line (with another Kajishima Masaki offshoot series in the works....hinted at during the last episode special) wasn't as "crisp". You can tell it's been a few years since Matt Miller voice'd Tenchi.....

The last few books though had this meandering sort of story/language style that made them a bit of a chore to read and keep interest in at the same time. I stuck it out because I wanted to see how the story wrapped, but it was a painful read.

You can tell it's been a few years since Matt Miller voice'd Tenchi..... The new Tenchi "universe" anime being worked on btw is currently in development by Kajishima Masaki, though details are thin on the ground. The working title is "Seikishi Monogatari" and will revolve around Tenchi's as yet unnamed half brother via stepmother Rea. Tokimi will play a role as well . If you recall Tokimi placing herself in the "kami" spot behind Yosho/Katsuhito at the shinto alter when Nobuyuki and Rea married in the OVA 3 Special episode and her enigmatic "secret" reason for being there? Well here you go.
