Greetings! Aha! So now I have a general idea of how it is that so many anime DVD's turn up at GameStop! A big thanks to you folks! :wink:
Watched Robotech as a child, on whatever station (WAXA TV40?) it was on. A few years later I found myself faithfully tuning in to watch Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon at something like 6 AM (Fox 21 or?) on weekends. Still hadn't heard of "anime" at this point though.
Got interested in anime later on during the last millenium from reading brief mentionings and articles scattered about in gaming publications, but didn't really have any money. Then, just before the turn of the century we got cable tv. Not long after that Cartoon Network started up the Toonami line up.
Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo, DBZ. It was all quite awesome. I started secretly taping Toonami The Midnight Run. That didn't always workout though as sometimes one or both of my parents would still be up or sometimes one of them would get up and notice the VCR running and turn it off. Sadly, due to tough financial issues my parents had to cancel cable before Gundam Wing ended, which resulted in me having to watch it at a relative's house whenever possible. Good memories regardless.
It was during that same time period that I found a couple of anime VHS tapes for a mere dollar each used. January 9th, 2001 (yes I kept record) purchased Robotech 2: The Sentinels from Goodwill. Didn't record when I bought Princess Mononoke, but it was sometime shortly thereafter. This was the first time I'd seen uncut commercial-free anime, I was really hooked.

The KB Toy Outlet in Gaffney had a Gundam Wing: Volume 3 DVD for just $5! Naturally I bought it. The problem? We didn't have a DVD player. Worse, my parents weren't sure what a DVD player was nor could they afford to buy one. :P Christmas of that year I asked for, and fortunately received, a DVD-ROM drive that came with Cyberlink PowerDVD playback software. My PC just barely met the minimum system requirements for playback, but once installed it worked great!
>>> Fast Forward
Presntly own a bunch of anime DVD's. Have seen dozens of series and OVA's, some were great, some were <cough>Gantz<cough>, and some were not so bad. Looking forward to watching a whole lot more in the years to come.
