I need your Must Have Anime Lists!! Hi,
My wife and I are in the process of opening a games & hobbies store in Greenville (near Furman) with plenty of room to play and hangout in store and we plan to offer coffee and a good selection of hard to find anime and also do anime rentals.
Problem is, I don't know what's considered good or rare. I'm not looking for the stuff everyone can get at Blockbuster... I want stuff people will actual be interested in seeing.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hmm... Well, the one abosulate thing I can say other than titles is... Have a complete series. For instance, the Blockbuster in Boiling Springs had vols 1-5 of Berserk.. but never got in vol 6. Yeah, that irritated me beyound belief... because I have no clue how it ended. Well, I do, cause I went to a website and they had a bunch of screenshots. But I would have rather of watched it. And don't have only a couple of volumes of a series. That's irritating as well.
As for titles.. hmm... I know what I like and what I want to see without having spend a lot on buying it, but my tastes may not be rare or good according to others. Tsubasa Chronicles is a new series that just got licensed. It had a big following when it was fansubbed. Bleach was another fansubbed title that had a HUGE following.
I'll need to think about this a bit more.

That's funny, I'd almost think you'd make better money selling the lastest craze stuff.

Well how about Dual: Parallel trouble adventure. In my opinion, that series was overshadowed by Tenchi GXP, and i find it to be a far more superior series. Also, (not to sound like a broken record but...) Gungrave's Anime seems to do the Series Justice than the game could ever have.

I've seen Dual: Parallel Trouble Adventure, and I must say it was an excellent anime, and I really enjoyed the story. I do intend to purchase it one day.
I would probably throw this in as one of my most wanted if I had seen just one disc of the series, and couldn't easily get a hold of the rest. The concept was brillant.

Yeah, that series kinda has a tendency to sell like hotcakes. But that's mostly on stores really. I'm not too sure about Online stores. Also, has anyone seen Monkey typhoon? That seems to be a pretty good one, for what i've seen.

There are a few good ole titles that have been forgotten as they were released before the height of anime's popularity.
Some of my favorites have always been:
Vampire Princess Miyu (TV and OAVs)
Mahou Tsukai Tai(I think they called it School Magic Club or something like that in the states here)... only the OAV series though, the TV series sorta reeked.
Fushigi Yuugi was also OK, not the greatest though. There was a TV series and OAV series that followed ... I remember selling both my TV box sets on ebay and they both went for more then I paid for them new.
Ayashi no Ceres (I think they renamed this Ceres: Celestial Legend here in the states) was by the same one who made Fushigi Yuugi but is a lot darker. I really loved this series.
Dual I agree wasnt a bad series. I thought that was one that is constantly replayed on G4 along with Boogiepop Phantasm, that magic shopping district show, and Crest of the Stars though.
Record of Lodoss Wars and Dragon-Half were some of my friends favorites, although I have never managed to see much of the latter.
Oops, cant forget Hand Maid May, Saint Tail, Ramna 1/2, and Slayers. All good series.

I think some good animes to get would be:
1.)Ichigo 100%
2.)Love Hina
3.)Tenchi Muyo
4.)Neko Witch
5.)He Is My Master
6.)Negima
7.)Karin
8.)Samurai X
9.)DBZ Movies
10.)Final Fantasy :Advent Childern (People seem to really want this movie)
Zero0079- 04-22-2006
Yeah, it seems as though strores are going to sell alot of Advent Children, considering the demand and popularity. Also here's a list of other popular Anime:
Hunter X Hunter
Flame of Recca
Gundam series (Mobile suit Gundam, Gundam 0083, Mobile suit Zeta Gundam, Gundam Wing)
X
Naruto (even though only 1 DVD has been out so far)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (despite the sucky ending, people still liked the series)
Berserk (nuff said)
Read or Die
Yu Yu Hakusho (OK it's alot like DBZ, but damn it, it's still a good series, and the Movie since its always sold out where i try to get it from, i'm sure it will sell really well)
Fruits Basket
Chobits
Onegai Teacher (i guess it's popular not considering the bombardment of product placement)
FullMetal Alchemist (also the movie which is coming to the US sometime in November)
Fullmetal Panic (and Fumoffu)
Ghost in the shell (both the movies and series)
Ranman 1/2 (Despite being freaking expensive)
FLCL (short but good IMO and hard to find in stores)
Viewtiful Joe (following the success of the game, and how good the series is, i'm sure it will sell)
Also, the Tenchi Muyo GXP series will also be a great addition to the original, and i'm sure it will sell.

Guardian-Sora it's great to see another post, I'm glad we didn't scare you off. Those are some nice animes btw, especially Tenchi Muyo.
Everyone has listed some really great animes, and I couldn't agree more about their selection.
One thing for realitycheck to keep in mind for someone like me is that I'm price sensitive, so getting a collectors edition box set of a series isn't going to attract me. It's to expensive, and I don't need all the extra crap that comes with it. I'd much rather have the cheaper economy box. Food for thought.
Andromeda- 04-23-2006
Yes, with so much to buy, a lot of us prefer the cheaper way to go.

That would be a good Idea
