My Eclectic Anime Favorites List Even though I've seen several hundred anime series over the years, there are certain ones I keep going back to as all time favorites.
So, without any particular rhyme or reason......
Tenchi Muyo. This is probably the one that got me started, and through the 3 main OVA series (that took freakin 12 years to complete a whopping 20 episodes) has remained a favorite of mine. If only Masaki Kajishima's series of Tenchi Canon novels would get translated into english I'd be a happy camper. The translated "excerpts and overviews" of them make me hungry to read them. I can speak a little japanese, but fugettabout kanji and hirigana. :P
Fruit's Basket. Pretty tame as anime goes (no mecha, no magical girls), but probably one of the best blends of comedy and story ever.
His And Her Circumstances (Kareshi Kanojo No Jijou). Proof positive that Studio Gainax (Neon Genesis Evangelion is their flagship) can do an excellent comedy/romance. Ranking right up their with Tenchi Muyo in the quality of it's english dub, it's probably the only anime I preferred the english dub wholly over the original japanese seiyu work. The series tanks after episode 16 though, as the original director quit.
Kodomo No Omocha. This is a rather old series (1994), but is 102 episodes of pure crack smokin crazy 12 year old girl funny. This series spawned many copycat's with it's insanely fast slapstick pacing, and is a true classic of the 90's
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro Chan. This 8 mini-episode OVA is offensive on so many accounts. Lots of gratuitous ecchi humor. Studded bat weilding Dokuro -chan killing Sakura about every 2-3 minutes with showers of comedic blood. I'm almost ashamed to laugh my butt off at this every time I've watched it. Almost. :P
Excel Saga. If you can make sense out of this, then tell me what meds your talking because I need some too. It's a parody of parodies of parodies. Don't watch if the continual Excel chasing her dog for dinner is troublesome to you. :P
Fooly Cooly. Just because it is what it is. Nuff said. :P
Mahou Shotengai Abenobashi (Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi). Probably *the* best parody anime, and probably one of the best english dubs out there. I'm picky....thank god that with the increasing popularity of anime in the US, dubs have gotten tons better.
I could go on and on and on. There are just so many favorites. Sigh. So much to do, so little time......

Tenchi Muyo! is my all time favorite anime. I also liked Universe a lot too.

Tench..... Universe was good
Tenchi In Tokyo was a further downhill step though...
All the Tenchi Movies were good, though none of them could totally decide what story arc they belonged to.
Magical Project S (Pretty Sammy) was proof positive that you can take a good series's characters and make a really stupid anime :P

I so loved Fruits Basket. So much so I'm reading the GNs. didn't care for FLCL or Excel Saga.

Fruits Basket The manga of Fruit's Basket was really good. My daughter hijacked mine though :( so I had to finish reading the story via scanlations..
Same deal with Ah Megami Sama, though I only had a few of the actual manga. Scanlations are up to chapter 225...sorta wondering when or *if* this one will ever end!?!?!? Still, I'm a big fan of Kosuke Fujishima's artwork, so I guess I'll cope. :P

Reminds me that I need to finish reading the scanlations of Yakatate! Japan.

Actually for me I would rather the series continue if its been good upto the point. There have been some great series that I didn't want to end, but alas.
I remember watching Martian Successor Nadesico up until the last episode, and stopping for almost forever until I finished it, because I didn't want it to end.

I didn't want Cardcaptor Sakura to end, nor Fruits Basket. I'm glad they did Tsubasa Chronicles, even though it doesn't have anything to do with CCS other than the characters.

I've not seen most of those series. Tenchi Muyo I recall as being great, but I've not seen it since it aired on Toonami. FLCL, was definetly good.
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, only thing I liked about it was the voice acting. They didn't rehash the same voice actors from nearly every other series in existence... or if they did they've got more talent than I give them credit for. Otherwise, the series was a bit to out there in bizarro land for my tastes.

Oh, wow. Abenobashi is one of my all time favorites. That's the sort of random I like and the fact that the kids were country as heck helped too.
My quirkiest anime love would have to be Project A-ko. I love those crazy broads.
