PS3
OMG! Have you seen the price for the new PS3! Best Buy had it advertised for $599.99! Now that's a system I won't be buying for like, five years. Thank god FF12 is on the PS2.

Yeah, the price was announced during the Sony press conference in E3 in May. Alot of people are going Wii60 on this one (Wii and 360 for those who arent aware). I'll probably pick up a PS3 eventually (most likley when the PS3 hits the 300 or less mark). Apparently, the main reason why they chose that price was because they are pushing Blu-Ray as a trojan to make it the standard Media format for Movies, much like they did with the DVD format to sell the PS2, except that DVD was a success prior to them releasing the PS2. Kinda shows how gaming is becoming a really expensive hobby. Oh well, at least it wasnt like the 3DO that was priced at about $700. Also, it's interesting to know that Sony is planning to keep the PS3 around for 10-11 years. Which would be about 2 generations, so once the majority of people do decide to get a PS3, they'll have 4 or more years more to play PS3 games while the system is still active in the market.

Yeah, it's a bit pricey for me. Although I'm not even sure if I'll ever own the Wii either. I'm not much of a console gamer. That said, the system I would buy assuming I want a console would be the Wii because of the exciting controller IMO. The Nintendo DS is actually what got me back into handheld gaming, as the PSP didn't excite me.

Yeah, i hear that. But if consoles start going the way that i'm seeing them going (in regard to them getting more and more expensive every passing generation), this will probably be the last console generation that would peak my interest. I just can't see myself spending 300 dollars on a console, unless there are games that i have to play, but even still, it's a bit iffy for me.

I JUST bought my own PS2. There's no way I'm buying the PS3 anytime soon, even it was the best system available. They are just a bit too proud of their little console.

I've had my PS2 for four or five years now and spent $300 on it. The two perks I liked about it was that it played DVDs, so I didn't have to buy a DVD player, and it played PS games. The PS3 doesn't play any other games but PS3 games. So not only will you have to dish out $600 for the system, but $60 or more for a game to even play on it to get started. Too much money for my working blood.

All the more proof that Sony is just effin intelligent. People were thrilled over the PS compatibility (despite not being able to save the games on the PS2), so they just decide to take that away now? And it still costs twice the price as the other new systems? Sure, ok, whatever. WTG big business.

I never bought a PS2. I was planning on it when it first launched, but a couple of friends of mine kept talking about how great the Gamecube is, and how Capcom was giving alot of support for it (which caught my interest since i was a Capcom fan at the time). I can easily see this console generation being a really sucky one. Especially for the cheap gamers out there, since no system with a price of 400 bucks or more (like Neo Geo, CDi, and 3DO) have caught on. So i could imagine that after this console generation, companies are going to raise the prices of consoles, by including unnecessary features, to make it more like PC's.
