Just recently I finished The Gokusen and loved it. I even downloaded the live action version and I am watching it now.

Hmm...this is a tough one... I've seen a couple of hundred series, ova's, and movies, so it's really hard to narrow things down. My all-time favorites would probably be - Tenchi Muyo Ryo Okhi - Fruits Basket - FLCL - Azumanga Daioh - His And Her Circumstances - Kodomo no Omocha (Childs Toy) ....if for no other reason than I've watched these series way more than once through. Also most of the above got me interested enough to do the typical anime-otaku thing and go after the manga's after-the-fact. :P Recent ones that I've really loved - Nodame Cantabile. Both the anime and the live action series will end up being classics.... - Ichigo Mashimaro. Even if it's about 5th and 6th graders, it's just too goofy not to love.. - Seirei no Moribito. Beautifully rendered, with a well thought out mythic story. - Paprika. This is a mind bendingly weird movie. You'll either love it or hate it. Reminds me of The Cell in that regard. - Ouran High School Host Club. It looks bishounen in a goofy sort of way, but it's more like a reverse harem comedy. I could go on and on, because anime is a uniquely diverse entertainment medium.

where to start... Ok I have alot of favorites but the ones that come to mind are Genshiken, Azumanga Dio, Love Hina, Gokusen, Zipang, Ergo Proxy, Beck, UTAWARERUMONO, Please teacher/Twins, I My Me Strawberry Eggs, Nanaka 6/17, Gantz, Initial D, Gunslinger Girl, Iria, Rumbling Hearts, Mcross Zero, Koi Kaze(weird but good), Baki the Grappler, Fist of the North Star, Comic Party,Gunsmith Cats ... I could go on and on but I don't have all night I have work in the moarning!

First and foremost I'm a Tenchi fan. Ryo-Ohki OVA's first and then Tenchi TV second. Also, in no particular order: Ranma 1/2 Slayers Utawarerumono Berserk (Manga version) Urusei Yatsura Anything that Reiji Matsumoto has done Excel Saga and a few others.

I'd have to agree with most everyones anime choices. Like others though. I'm a Tenchi fan. OVA's followed by TV. I must say the TV version had the best opening, and ending I've ever seen. The OVA's had the better story though.

The OVA's had the better story though. I wish the Shin Tenchi novels would get translated into english. There are some excerpts of them I have links to ("Jurai", Yosho", "Washu"), and they provide a lot of "back story" to Jurian and Kurimitzu history and whatnot. Sadly though, since they were doujinshi works by Masaki Kajishima (the creator behind the OVA series), and since he doesn't own the rights (AIC/VAP does) it'd be a legal pickle to get them reprinted here. Much of Kajishima's work on the Tenchi "universe" is doujinshi, so there's little chance any of it will ever get translated officially.

It's tough deciding which ones are your favorite since your tastes shift over time. Robotech, Genshiken, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya, Tenchi Muyo, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Great Teacher Onizuka, Goldenboy, Honey & Clover, Azumanga Daioh Others you guys mentioned that are great: Fruits Basket FLCL His And Here Circumstances Ouran High School Host Club X Love Hina Zipang Onegai Teacher I know this is supposed to be about your favorites, but I gave Excel Saga a chance, and it just sucked horribly. I don't usually mind strange comedic anime, since I love FLCL and Azumanga Daioh, but Excel Saga flowed awkwardly and I was just bored. Just my opinion. But, I do want to see The Gokusen. It's in my download list right now.

Sigh....and then there's Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei....and Potemayo....and.....and....and......:P

I couldn't stand Excel Saga either. The Gokusen is great! I'm watching the second season of the live action version. It has more anime element in it than the first one did.
