South Carolina Anime Convention
The first steps are being taken by a small group to see if SC would be a good place to start an anime convention. Within the next few weeks I will be scouting out Columbia for places of interest that will accomodate one. If you have any suggestions on hotels or areas to concentrate in, please let me know. Good prices, nice rooms, food locations.

Why don't you try to talk to USC Columbia? I think that school has an anime club, but I am not sure. I am sure if they have an anime club, then you can work out something without a problem.

They do have an anime club, but what is there to work out with them?

Marovin- 05-14-2008

You could say that you work with the Mafia and if they don't submit then all is lost. Nah, since they are students of USC, they should know how to submit paper work in order to request for rooms and junk. For the club at my college (USCA) when we decided what time we want to me, I try to find a tier room that we can use and submit the paper work in requesting for that room. Since this is the first SC convention in USC, the show out should be low. Meaning we could probably just ask for a gym or show room. Also, we could (not likely) get equipment (like speakers and junk) for free if we hold it at a college. Though I dunno, since I don't ask the school for any equipment for the anime club at my college.

This has nothing to do with USC. We are talking actual 3 day hotel convention.

Of course this has nothing to do with USC. I am just suggesting that USC might have a building that you can use for your convention.

USC's Club Nashi had a con in April. It was called NASHI-CON, I posted a thread on it here. . It was small, but they had a good turnout of people, and it was really fun. It was fun, and it's supposedly annual. You may want to talk to the producers of Round-Con, the Columbia, SC gaming convention held every year here. They're planning on having an anime section next year. Maybe the two cons can be combined, much like the Dragon*Con with sci-fi and books.

Round-Con is a big gaming con though and this year they had no anime what so ever. It seems as if it's not attracting any anime fans at all when it did have anime. I've been to a con that has tried this and frankly, it's a failure.

Round-Con is a big gaming con though and this year they had no anime what so ever. It seems as if it's not attracting any anime fans at all when it did have anime. It is true that RoundCon is primarly a gaming convention. However it is untrue that the anime room was not attracting fans. The reasons for not having an anime room for RoundCon 2008 was simply to do with a timing issue from the finalizations of the date and place of the convention and the space that was available for 2008. But any anime convention that starts up in SC I will gladdly attend, heck even help out if wanted/needed:) If you want to get ahold of me Andromeda I do have some info on the places around Columbia that might be able to host a convention. quickenin at hotmail dot com (then again I think you already have my adsress:) Talk at you on the flip side:)

Most of the convention ready hotels are downtown which kinda sucks, but they're not all that hard to find compared to places in, say, downtown Charleston. Some friends and I have been looking into a convention as well.

Andromeda- 06-10-2008

One of the reasons why I didn't suggest Charleston was because how hard it would be to find a hotel downtown, or a hotel in general. I've been there once and to even find a certain place to eat was a bit of a nightmare. The other reason was because it's expensive there being that it's a tourist city. When things get into the swing and become more final, I'll let everyone know, because we'll need people to help us. quickenin, I sent you an email.

So.............. Is this idea still on? 'Cuz I found a great venue to have it at. Enough space, newly renovated, near food, right off the interstate.

Andromeda- 07-10-2008

PM me the information. I've been doing more next search than footwork right now. Don't want to waste too much gas driving back and forth. Plus I need to get some info from the guys so I know exactly what to look for.
