The Wallflower Vol 1: Lesson 1 My Fair Bishonen The Wallflower Vol 1: Lesson 1 My Fair Bishonen
By Andromeda
Rejected, called ugly, by the boy she had a crush on, Sunako went into a downward spiral into a dark world. No longer will she compare herself to others. No longer would she take care of her face, diet, or do those womanly things to be beautiful. She will become a creature of the dark, shying away from the creatures of the light, the beautiful people that shine with such radiance.
Worried about this, Sunako’s aunt has decided to step in, to help her niece to become a beautiful young lady. Enlisting the aide of three beautiful high school boys, living in her mansion, she offers them the task. If they fail, they will have to start paying the rent at triple the rate. What are they to do?!
It can’t really be that hard to turn Sunako into a Princess… right? It may be more difficult than the boys originally thought. She’s a bit psycho, paranoid, and ignorant of all things feminine.
Sunako is a gothic, horror-movie loving girl that can be easily identified with. Getting rejected by the one you have a crush on can be painful. A person can become gloomy and withdrawn, insecure, shying away from the beautiful things in life. Most of us know that as being Emo. For some, it’s only a phase that doesn’t last long. For others, it becomes a lifestyle.
The Wallflower is an ugly duckling comedy that reminds me of Fruits Basket. The beautiful boys have quite the girl following at school and don’t like that some girl they don’t know has gotten close to them. Worse yet, that she lives with them. Unlike Tohru, Sunako is loud, scary, and will kick some butt if necessary.
From what I’ve read on the net, the anime follows along pretty good with the manga with a slight variant in the chain of events. Since I haven’t read it, I can’t compare the two, but after watching the first volume, it definitely prompts me to want to read it.
The artwork is detailed and well drawn, rich in color. Many of the scenes are quite comedic. The soundtrack ranges from rock to orchestral music. The voice acting is terrific. I love how each little schoolgirl clique has it’s own accents and tones, as well as looks.
Comedy lovers and Bishi lovers will like, if not love, this series.
Extras include Clean Opening & Closing and On-Air Opening for Episodes 1-13.

This is yet another series I saw in fansub first, and it's absolutely hilarious. Your right about it's resemblance to Fruits Basket. It's sort of an "anti-Fruits-Basket"...Creepy, funny, incredible!! Can't ask for more! :)
