Tokyo Majin Vol 1: Dark Arts: Dragon Stream
Tokyo Majin Vol 1: Dark Arts: Dragon Stream By Andromeda What do the student body president, the captain of the archery team, the captain of the wrestling team, a delinquent student, and the new transfer student have in common? They fight demons using powers from the Dragon Stream, handling things that no mere human can. These five students are the last line of defense between supernatural entities and the safety of Tokyo. And while saving the city they must make sure the nosy student paper reporter doesn’t catch them doing this. This supernatural thriller will pull you in with the first episode. The fight scenes are amazing as the characters give it their all, working fluidly with one another, like a well oiled machine. Each of them has a different supernatural ability that comes naturally to them. For example, Komaki, the captain of the archery team uses special arrows while Aoi, wanting to protect others so there are no more victims, has a mental ability that can protect against an attack or deflect one. With the second episode of this new series, you start from the beginning, finding out how they come together and when they first discover their abilities. They weren’t always a happy go lucky team. Aoi was considered weak and Kyouichi only wanted to see how far his ability could go. You’ll see each character, as they are, their personality, how they act around others. The first episode will show them as a serious group of teenagers fighting a demon that has taken so many lives, but you’ll soon learn that they are really just your typical average every day teenage student. The artwork is a visual masterpiece. There is a good deal of detail used for characters and demons a like. Even with the background there is enough detail to give you a great visual yet not over done so that your eyes are pulled away from what’s going on. To accompany the visual pleasantries, the soundtrack goes wonderfully with it. This would be a soundtrack to add to anyone’s collection. As for the dubbing, another job well done by the voice actors and ADV. The idea for Tokyo Majin comes from the PlayStation game by the same name. I’ve never played it, but it must be good to get an anime series from it. The series is even considered a new release in Japan having aired earlier this year from January to April. The first season is fourteen episodes long and has a second season, which has already aired as well and has been licensed by ADV already. This series has so many genres that it will attract anime lovers with different tastes. Mystery, supernatural, thriller, horror, action and comedy. Not sure you’ll like Tokyo Majin? The series has been compared to Bleach. It can also be compared to the live action series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You have different students from different cliques who bring something different to the group and you need all of them for the group to be effective.
