Venus Versus Virus Vol 1: Outbreak
Venus Versus Virus Vol 1: Outbreak By Andromeda Imagine what it would be like if you could see those that infect the world. Demons, known as virus, can be seen by a select few and those few are what the demons want. What can one do to fight off a virus that is unlike any that can be killed by man’s medicine? You contact the Venus Vanguard, virus exorcists, for their help. Sumire is an average schoolgirl. Well, average if you call seeing demons average. Together with Lucie, they fight the things that would hunt down and consume the souls of humans who are special enough to see the demons. Along with two others, they use a special vaccination, known as anti-virus bullets, to destroy the virus that looks to infect us. Just like you can’t judge a book by its cover, you can’t judge this series by its first episode. It didn’t give much to draw me in while watching it, but the longer I watched past the first episode the more drawn in I became. It’s not one of those jump up, slap you in your face types of animes, but a tickling of entertainment for your enjoyment. The story in volume one seems a bit weak, but there is potential in it getting better. I can see myself watching more of this in-between those series’ higher up on my list to watch. The characters start out a bit dry but slowly they begin to unwind, letting you glimpse at what is beneath the surface. Sumire begins to struggle with her inner self, wondering if she made the right choice in joining the Venus Vanguard. Lucie seems to have some hidden secrets that are merely touched upon but it gives you something to look forward to later on. I did like the flashback episode that tells of how Sumire came to join the Venus Vanguard. The voice acting was once again a wonderful achievement. Even with the good voice acting though, you can’t hide the fact that the sound doesn’t seem to mesh quite so well. At times Lucie talks so softly that every other sound nearly drowns her out. Then there are times where a squeal of fear or delight seems too loud making you think the volume was turned up. There seemed to be a volume problem when mixing everything together for the final product. I found myself adjusting the volume a few times too many. Venus Versus Virus is a cute anime that should be given a chance. Licenser: ADV Studio: Studio Hibari Length: 100mins Retail: (U.S.) $29.98 Availability: Now Available
