Watching/Watched: May 2010Two thirds of the month gone and no May edition had been made yet!
So far this month have watched:
Moon Phase
Started off with lots of great potential. About midway through though the series stops taking itself seriously. And by the end, all of the major plot points are completely abandoned in favor of running gags. Rather disappointing to be quite honest. Watch only if you want to see a situational comedy about vampires, as that's about all this series wound up being.
Maburaho: Volume 2
Per BodyOrgan's remarks concerning my impressions on volume 1 I bought volume 2 only just to see what course the series takes for myself. He was right, not really worth the time and money to buy the rest from my point of view. Series showed some signs of having some good sub plots developing, but volume two just is more of the same sort of content as volume one, minus the hints at deeper content. Oh, and yet another aggressive female love interest pops up in this volume.
Miami Guns: Volume 1
Uhhhh, wait, what is this series about really? Two very whacky and clueless female police officers... in Miami... with gun fetishes. Pretty bad when the second episode is a ficticous recap of the addmittedley non-existent prequel anime and manga and making of that goes on to spoof itself. Third and fourth episodes were alright though, if not incredibly odd.
Yu Yu Hakusho
Now fifty-three episodes in. Everybit as good as I'd remembered it being. Well, actually better seeing as now I get to watch it uncut and without commercial breaks, hahaha.
Seems like I'm forgetting something else I watched already this month...
Gunbuster
Who put the science in my anime? Gainax, that's who! It has been years since I'd had a volume 1 VHS of this awesome OVA in my posession. During Amazon's recent sale I took the plunge and shelled out the cash to buy Bandai's hideously overpriced DVD box set release of this legendary greatness. Still fantastic after all these years.
Ghost Hunt: Volume 1
Please make sure you're fully awake when watching this. Otherwise, you might be inclined to thinking that what's being said is all subliminal messaging being implanted into your imagination as part of a massive conspiracy by the N-H-K.
Yu Yu Hakusho
Now seventy episodes deep.
Shuffle
This turned out having some surprisingly complex characters and a shockingly normal male protagonist who's not a total idiot. The first half of the series gave the viewer the impression of a predictable outcome for the second half, but such was not the case. If your looking for a guy meets girls series that's something other than another Love Hina clone give Shuffle a try.
Phantom Quest Corp.
Short, 4 episode OVA series about some detective agency that vanquishes spirits for a living. Kind of felt like watching "The Real Ghostbusters", but with absolutely no background story to build from. A lot was quite unclear especially in regards to the main characters backgrounds. Series ended well enough though.
Blood: The Last Vampire (live action movie)
=< I love vampires.
