What's coming in the games department for Nintendo DS!
It looks like there are a lot of interesting games down the pipe for the Nintendo DS. This is to expand on the topic Zero0079 posted earlier. We have Mario Hoops 3-on-3 which is being developed by Square Enix who brought you the Final Fantasy series. According to sources everything in the game is to be achieved using the stylus. The site that I've linked say's upto 4 players, but I sure hope that number increases to 6 to cover all slots available. Next up is Star Fox DS which is going to have LAN multiplayer for upto 8 people, and online multiplayer for 4 people. This game brings Star Fox closer to it's roots, as it's strickly flying. It's going to be in 3D with battles taking place in space, and on planets surfaces. For you RPG fans there is Magical Vacation. This game is going to mix magic and sci-fi together. The premise: A teacher fails to come back from a space mission, and her pupils blast off in rockets to find her, but get lost themselves. The player comes in as the hero who seeks both the lost children, and the teacher. As you find each child they will join your party etc.... It plans to have 6 player LAN multiplayer feature, and "egg characters" who travel and grow via tag mode. Another RPG, and a little more well known is Children of Mana. I don't have a lot of information on this title yet, but from what I'm hearing is that it's more of a dungeon crawl instead of an RPG that actually tells a story. Time will tell if that's true however. It does contain LAN multiplayer for upto 4 people. Okay, now for the big boy's. If you're going to own/buy one, and only one RPG then it's most likely either going to be Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass or Final Fantasy III. With Zelda it's picking up with the Wind Waker story. Link finds himself lost and alone in unknown seas in a new adventure, and so the story goes... Some highlights for this game include competive LAN multiplayer in which you can guide Link through special dungeons to capture the Triforce or command the forces that oppose him. As far as the control goes some interesting things that can be done include using the stylus to swing the sword or draw a path for the boomerang to follow. Now for FFIII. Ahem...it's completely 3D, and this isn't the FFIII for the SNES. That was actually FFVI. FFIII never truely came to the states. From what little information I have on this title it's using the same story, monsters, and locations. Of course all the visuals have been built from scratch to maximize the graphical power of the DS. The game at this stage appears to be completely playable with the control pad or the stylus. As far as everything else like LAN multiplayer or online play, well that's anyone's guess. I suppose I should bring this thread to a close soon as I'm sure it's been an overwhelming read at this point, so to top it off I end with Panzer Tactics DS. This is a turn based World War II strategy game. Think Advance Wars. It's set in the European theater, and puts you in charge of one of three armies German, Russian, or Western Allied. The battles all come from WWII's most historic moments. The game features extensive use of the dual screens, and can be controlled with either the touch screen or control pad. It has 4 player LAN multiplayer, and early signs point to a possible online ability as well. There are quite a few other interesting games out there as well, but I figured I'd stop here, and let you read what might interest you. P.S. The Nintendo DS Lite is due out in North America June 11th. Do yourself a favor, and pick one up ;-)
